What is a Rehab Wellness Programme and Why is it Important

What is a Rehab Wellness Programme?

 

A rehab wellness programme is made up of physical exercise (e.g. cycling, yoga, aerobics, and swimming), dietary advice, and activities to promote inner-health (e.g. meditation). The goal is to give you a good foundation of wellness that you can build upon once you return home. People who go to rehab will be at different levels of physical fitness, many will not have exercised in years, so these programmes aren’t too strenuous. You will usually have access to a personal trainer who will create a suitable regime for your current abilities and goals.

 

Why is a Rehab Wellness Programme Important?

 

Post-acute withdrawal symptoms (PAWS) can last up to a year after you have stopped drinking or using drugs. These lingering niggles can include insomnia, fuzzy thinking, and aches and pains. The mental symptoms associated with PAWS are often due to nutritional deficiencies, and these deficiencies can be corrected by a healthy diet. Practices such as meditation and yoga can also improve your ability to sleep and night and reduce fuzzy thinking. You may also find that many of your physical discomforts disappear once you start exercising regularly.

 

Probably the most important reason for why you will benefit from a rehab programme is it strengthens your sobriety. The body and mind are closely linked, and if you are unhealthy, it is going to impact your thinking and moods. Achieving a good level of fitness is going to boost your energy levels, and this means you will be better able to do the work you need to do to maintain your sobriety. There is also some evidence to suggest that improved fitness increases your ability to deal with cravings.

 

If you continue to feel unwell even after you have quit your addiction, it is going to have a negative impact on your motivation. It may even become a justification to relapse. Getting sober is all about creating a new and better life for yourself, and part of this needs to be good health. It also means that you are likely to be alive longer to enjoy your sobriety.
